"The world needs DePauw," the University's 19th president tells Alumni Celebration

"As the next president of this University, I'm going to ask constantly whether we are all doing all that we can to ensure that this is the strongest DePauw possible," Brian W. Casey told alumni at the Alumni Celebration on Saturday, June 14, during Alumni Reunion Weekend.

Speaking 16 days before he'll officially begin his duties as DePauw's 19th president, Casey provided the crowd of about 1,000 with a welcome back to campus, an affirmation and appreciation of the University's traditions, and a peek into what his presidency will bring.

Class of 1958 sets record at Alumni Reunion Weekend

A record number of 300 members of the 50th reunion class and their spouses returned for Alumni Reunion Weekend June 11-15. As part of one of the most highly attended reunions ever, the Class of 1958 paraded into Saturday morning's Alumni Celebration in Kresge Auditorium to the strains of "Seventy-Six Trombones" from The Music Man. However, the golden anniversary celebrants wrote new lyrics – both humorous and sentimental – to mark their milestone return to the Greencastle campus.

Dr. Ferid Murad '58 and E. Mitchell Roob Jr. '83 were speakers for the golden and silver reunion classes.
