Multicultural and Community Life Coordinator
Full-time, 12-month salaried position with benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As an integral member of the Multicultural and Community Life team, the Coordinator is responsible for designing programs and implementing social, recreational, and cultural events that support the University Mission, DePauw Student Services goals and enhance the educational experience of DePauw students out of the classroom.  The Coordinator will focus on:  providing programs, services, and advocacy for students from historically under-represented communities including: racial and ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQs, and religious minorities; and promoting a more diverse and non-discriminatory campus community.

Responsibilities fall under the following areas:  building relationships with students; assessing student needs; planning programs and activities to meet those needs; facility development and management; critical incident response; and advising student organizations.  Specific responsibilities might include serving as an important point of contact for members of the campus community for concerns relating to diversity and making DePauw’s campus more diverse and welcoming of all students; providing direct support and assistance to one or more of DePauw’s student identity/affinity groups; working in conjunction with the Assistant Dean and other Coordinators to plan and execute outstanding social, cultural, and educational programs (shared responsibility for attending and staffing these programs); creating and supporting programming related to DePauw’s Black Male Initiative and Women of Color groups; providing one-on-one and small group support to students who have been affected by bias-related incidents; supervising student staff in The Den, a student social/programming facility in Longden Hall (oversee development/ management of that facility); developing and presenting workshops and training sessions on multiculturalism and diversity, leadership, and other relevant topics; as part of the Multicultural and Community Life Team, providing general support to DePauw’s 100 or more student clubs and organizations; directly advising and supporting DePauw’s Student Government and/or Union Board; and serving on DePauw and Student Services committees such as the Diversity and Equity Committee, DePauw Black Caucus, Staff Development Committee, and search committees as needed.

REQUIREMENTS 
Bachelor’s degree and experience with programming and/or event planning required.  Candidates must have a demonstrated experience with and sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community.  Experience with entertainment contracts and negotiations are preferred.  Candidates should be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, community members and alumni.  This position requires a willingness to work flexible hours and evenings as needed.  Understanding of, and commitment to, Student Affairs principles is essential as well as, excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.  Experience working at a residential, liberal arts college is preferred.
