Plan a Visit

We strongly encourage students to visit DePauw University during their college search process. A campus visit can be either a personal visit incorporating a tour, an admission appointment and other activities, or attendance at one of many types of Admission Events.

Campus Visit

A standard campus visit to DePauw University consists of two things:

  1. A walking tour with a current DePauw student
  2. An appointment with an admission officer

A campus visit can begin as early as 9:00 a.m. or as late as 2:00 p.m. accommodating both a tour and an admission appointment. In addition to the tour and admission appointment, other opportunities are available on a weekday visit to help families become acquainted with DePauw.

  • Visit a class
  • Meet with a coach or faculty member
  • Have lunch with a current student while on campus
  • High school seniors are welcome to spend the night on campus with a student host.
  • Overnight accommodations can be made for one night any Sunday through Thursday evening with a two week advance notice (list of possible overnight dates). Many students like to arrive on campus in the late afternoon or early evening hours, meet their host/hostess for the evening then have their scheduled appointments and activities the following day.
  • If you would like to schedule an audition during your visit to DePauw, please complete the Music Audition Reservation form.

Admission Events

You may also choose to visit campus on one of our scheduled event days, such as our Preview Days. On these days we welcome large groups of students to campus for a day’s program designed to give them a better sense of life at DePauw.  See our Admission Events page for more information.

The campus tour

Asbury Hall

The campus tour is a walking tour led by a current DePauw student. The tour enters several, but not all buildings on campus. It takes approximately one hour, so be sure to wear your walking shoes! During the school year tours are conducted weekdays at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 and most Saturdays at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 and noon. Our tours occur through rain, snow, sleet and hail, so dress accordingly.

During the summer months of June-August, tours are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The summer months in Indiana can be hot. Again, dress accordingly for a one-hour walking tour. DePauw does not schedule Saturday hours during the summer. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except Alumni Reunion Weekend, usually the first or second weekend in June.

The Admission Appointment

The appointment with an admission officer can be conducted in one of two formats. An information session is a brief presentation by an admission officer with the opportunity for questions and answers. There may be other families present for the information session. Information sessions are offered weekdays at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and most Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.

Another option is an individual interview. An interview is not required but it is strongly recommended for students who plan to apply to DePauw. We recommend students interview in the fall semester of their senior year of high school. However, if a high school junior feels prepared to have an interview, this can be scheduled late in the spring semester of the junior year. The admission interview is evaluative in nature and becomes a part of the student's application for admission.

East College

Appointments in the Admission Office may be handled either by a full time member of the Admission Staff or a Senior Interviewerr. A Senior Interviewer is a DePauw student in the Admission Office who assists with information sessions and interviews while our Admission Staff is conducting fall and spring travel. These students are fully trained in admission procedures and requirements and are excellent resources for families for admission information as well as student life questions.

Interviews are offered weekdays at 10:15, 11:15, 2:15 and 3:15 and most Saturdays at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 and 12:00 noon. During the summer months of June, July and August appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday. No appointments are scheduled on Saturday during the summer other than during Alumni Reunion Weekend when the Office of Admission will be open from 9:00 a.m. to noon and one tour will be scheduled during this time period.

What does a campus visit consist of?
A standard campus visit consists of a campus tour and an appointment with an admission officer. Students who want a more in-depth look at DePauw may request to visit a class, meet with a coach or faculty member and/or have lunch on campus.
Do I need to make a reservation for a visit?
We prefer that you make an appointment so that we may prepare a productive visit for you. If we plan ahead, we can ensure that you will get all of the information you need while on campus. However, we have families that drop in when they are "in the neighborhood" quite frequently, and our welcome mat is always out.
If I fly , is transportation available to and from campus?
There is no public transportation available between Greencastle and Indianapolis. However, rental cars are available at the airport. For prospective students traveling alone who fly in to visit DePauw, we will provide transportation to and from the airport with prior notice of flight details.

There is no cost for an overnight visit at DePauw. We will provide the student with a place to stay and meal passes for three meals while on campus. Students may choose to bring along extra cash for incidentals, such as a trip to the bookstore.

We provide the host and the room. We recommend that you bring along your bedding (sleeping bag, pillow, blanket), towels, toiletries, etc. Occasionally, our hosts have extra beds or futons in their rooms, but for the most part, prospective visitors will be 'camping out' on the floor of the dorm room.
