DePauw to host NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships

 


Senior Eric Fruth, shown here during the indoor season, earned all-America honors in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs at the 2002 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships with fifth-place finishes in each.

Fruth doubles up on all-America honors with fifth-place showing in 5,000 meters
Senior Eric Fruth added an exclamation point to the end of his DePauw running career as he finished with his second all-America honor in three days by placing fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 14:54.37 at the NCAA Division III Championships at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. On Thursday, Fruth also finished fifth in the 10,000 meters to earn all-America distinction. As a team, DePauw finished 38th with eight points. Please visit the NCAA host site

Flory finishes 10th in steeplechase at Division III Championships
Sophomore Simon Flory finished 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:20.79 at the NCAA Division III Championships at Macalester College. Please visit the NCAA host site

Fruth earns all-America honors in 10K; 4 x 100-meter relay sets school record
Senior Eric Fruth finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run final in 31:08.64 during the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Championships at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., to earn all-America honors.

The Tigers' 4 x 100-meter relay of Jamarcus Shephard, Chris Heitz, Rondell Ferguson and J.R. Foster improved upon its school record with a time of 41.67 seconds, but it wasn't good enough to earn a spot in Saturday's finals. They finished with the 12th fastest time and topped their previous school mark of 41.73 which came at the Butler University Twilight on May 4. Please visit the NCAA host site

Tigers set for NCAA Division III Championships
Eric Fruth, Simon Flory and the 4 x 100-meter relay of Jamarcus Shephard, Chris Heitz, Rondell Ferguson and J.R. Foster have qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships which begin Thursday, May 23 at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. Fruth will compete in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs, while Flory enters with the third-fastest time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Please visit the host site

Flory joins Fruth as automatic qualifier
Simon Flory earned automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships with a school-record time of 9:07.45 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at a last chance meet at Butler. The national meet is scheduled for May 23-25 at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

Tigers compete at Billy Hayes Invitational
Several DePauw athletes competed at the annual Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University. Among the highlights was Eric Fruth's fifth-place showing in the 3,000-meter run in a school-record time of 8:36.20. The 4 x 100-meter relay also placed fifth in a time of 41.94 seconds. Simon Flory was third in the steeplechase in 9:29.35 and Matt DeLeon was sixth in 9:33.25.

Fruth qualifies in 5K; 4 x 100 relay improves school record time
Eric Fruth won the 5,000 meters at the Butler Twilight meet and did so in a school and meet-record time of 14:34.84. The mark topped the previous school record of 14:55.2 set by Tom Rust in 1974. It also earned automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championships. Fruth will also compete in the 10,000 meters at the national meet. Graham Wellman earned provisional qualification in the event with a time of 14:57.65. Simon Flory improved upon his provisional qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a second place finish in 9:15.16. Meanwhile, the 4 x 100-meter relay also improved upon its provisional qualifying and school-record time with a second-place finish in 41.73 seconds. Results

Tigers win third straight SCAC title
DePauw won its third straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Championship as it totaled a record 235.5 points and topped second place Trinity by 50. Along the way, the Tigers set SCAC records in four different events. Full story with link to results

Butler University Indy Relays Results

Tigers finish second at Little State Championships
DePauw placed second at the Little State Championships it hosted by totaling 121.5 points to the University of Indianapolis' 152.5. The Tigers' 4x100-meter relay won in a school and stadium record time of 41.85 seconds and qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships. Eric Fruth won the 5,000-meter run in 15:02.58, while Simon Flory won the steeplechase in 9:16.12 to improve upon his previous Division III provisionally qualifying time. DePauw wins quad
The Tigers totaled 241 points to runner-up Butler's 182 to win the DePauw Quad at Blackstock Stadium. Indiana Wesleyan finished with 154 points and Valparaiso totaled 101. Results

Tigers place second at Gerry England Classic
Behind Eric Fruth's school-record and automatic qualifying time in the 10,000 meters, the Tigers placed second at the Gerry England Classic. Fruth won in 30:47.66. Simon Flory won the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:21.14 to qualify provisionally. Results

DePauw wins invitational
The Tigers took first at the DePauw/SCAC Indoor Invitational at the Tennis and Track Center. DePauw finished with 151 points to runner-up Wittenberg's 125. Complete results

Tigers finish a close second at DePauw Indoor Invitational
DePauw totaled 138 points to finish second behind Greenville's 147 at the DePauw Indoor Invitational. Eric Fruth notched an NCAA provisional qualifying performance with his win in the 5,000 meters in 14:48.85. Also earning first-place finishes was Keith Marshall in the 1,000 meters in 2:36.11, Mike Hult in the shot put with a throw of 14.39 meters and Jamarcus Shephard in the 55 meters in 6.58 seconds.
