April 5, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw improved to 16-7 overall and 7-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 17-0 win over Sewanee in the opening game of a doubleheader. The second game was called during the bottom of the first due to lightning and thunderstorms in the area. Sewanee dropped to 0-14 overall and 0-7 in the SCAC. With the win, the Tigers extended their SCAC regular season win streak to 25.
The Tigers scored 12 in the first, one in the second and four in the third and pounded out 18 hits in the win. A total of 14 DePauw players had at least one hit led by Brianne Weeks, Lauren Rees, Jen Kosinski and Cymone Allen with two each. Weeks scored four runs and Rees drove in five includinga grand slam in the third.
Four different Sewanee players collected one hit each as DePauw starter Megan Soultz improved to 14-7 after striking out five and not allowing a walk. Courtney Hinkle dropped to 0-8 with the loss.
DePauw returns to action on Friday, April 10, when it hosts Rhodes in a 4 p.m. SCAC doubleheader.
