DePauw University - Women's Basketball

<pre>

Despite a shaky start, the DePauw women's basketball team came back to defeat Hanover 74-62 in an Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference contest. With the win, DePauw improved to 15-5 overall and remained in a first place tie with Franklin with a 6-1 ICAC record. The loss dropped Hanover to 13-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The visiting Panthers asserted themselves early on the boards and backed it up with some sharp shooting to jump out to a 25-14 lead in the first 10 minutes. However, over the next eight minutes, it was practically all DePauw. The Tigers scored the next six points to close to within five at 25-20 before the Panthers buried their fourth and final three-pointer of the game with 6:47 left to make it 28-20.

A three-pointer from Kelly Morrison, an Erin Mulford free throw and a Lana Harrison three-pointer made it 30-29 Hanover with 2:34 left. Susan Bender then scored on a layup, Brenda Simmons nailed one of two free throws and Harrison buried another trey to give the Tigers a 35-30 advantage with 1:01 left in the half. Hanover scored the half's final four points to make it 35-34.

The Tigers still held a one-point lead at 47-46 with 13 minutes left before going on a 10-0 run as Alenka Hren hit a pair of three-pointers in the stretch. The Panthers clawed back to within six at 63-57 at the 4:15 mark, but three straight Tiger baskets turned away the guests.

"We'll take it," Coach Kris Huffman said of her Tigers' 15th win. "We didn't rebound well at all. They (Hanover) really went after the boards tonight."

Bender led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Harrison with 11 and Hren 10. Hren and Kingsley each grabbed eight rebounds and Harrison dished out seven assists. Amy Macy led Hanover with 14 points, while Amy Hackworthy totaled 13 and Leslie Fryman 12. Hackworthy and Fryman each grabbed 13 rebounds as the Panthers outrebounded the Tigers 51-40. The Panthers shot just 24 percent in the second half and the Tigers committed just nine turnovers for the game.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday with a 3 p.m. tipoff against Blackburn College at the Neal Fieldhouse.
