DEPAUW WOMEN CLOSE WITH 102-37 WIN OVER ROSE-HULMAN;
AWAIT POSSIBLE NCAA TOURNAMENT BID

Terre Haute, Ind.--The DePauw women's basketball team finished the
regular season knowing it had no chance of an Indiana Collegiate Athletic
Conference title as Franklin claimed the championship with Friday's win over
Anderson, but they were still playing for an NCAA Division III tournament
appearance. The Tigers rolled over Rose-Hulman by a 102-37 score to finish the
regular season at 19-6 and 8-2 in the ICAC. The Engineers finished their first
season at 0-20 overall and 0-10 in the ICAC.
The Tigers never trailed and built a 50-11 lead at halftime as the
Engineers shot just 14 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes. DePauw
outrebounded Rose-Hulman 60-34 for the game and 14 of the 17 Tiger players who
played also scored. Kelly Morrison led all scorers with 21 points, followed by
Jana Mathis and Shanna Martin with 12 each and Alenka Hren with 11. Mathis
grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Alenka Hren recorded an ICAC-record nine steals as DePauw broke its own
team record with 28 steals. The previous mark was 23 against Fontbonne earlier
this season. The 102 points scored is the second most in school history behind
the 103 the Tigers posted against St. Mary-of-the-Woods during the 1981-82
season.
Though the season may not be complete yet, the 1995-96 Tigers set
season record for free throws, rebounds and steals. The 19 wins is second only
to the 20 victories by the 1989-90 team in 27 games.
