Stata at DePauw

Workshop

From May 19 - 22, 2009, we held a workshop on teaching with Monte Carlo simulation and Stata. SimStataWorkshop.xls has the schedule.

The workshop was supported by funds from the Elizabeth P. Allen Distinguished University Professorship and was attended by 14 faculty members from Bio, Chem, Math, Classics, and Economics.

The workshop used Stata from a server. Participants clicked on this compressed remote desktop file: stata.zip, then double-clicked it and dragged stata.rdp onto the desktop. Finally, they double clicked the stata.rdp file on the desktop and entered the username and password assigned to them. The remote server worked well.

For sample chapters (for further documentation and reading after the workshop), download these archives, BarretoMicro.Metrics.zip and Bootstrapping.zip. Read the pdf files first, opening the Excel workbooks when indicated in the chapters.

To get the add-ins used in this workshop, please visit www.wabash.edu/econometrics and click on the Excel add-ins link. Each add-in has documentation. Download an add-in (right-click and Save As), then go to excel and bring up the Add-In Manager dialog box. In Excel 2007, it's Office button-->Excel Options-->Add-ins-->Go. In earlier versions, it's Tools--> Add-ins. Click the Browse button and navigate to where you saved the add-in and select it. Make sure the add-in is checked in the dialog box and click OK. It will appear in the Add-ins tab (or in the Tools menu of earlier versions of Excel).
