Historical Background

   The Amo Methodist Church was built in 1867 at a cost of $2,000 on land given by John and Sarah Masten.  The first ministers are listed as having served Coatesville too.

   In 1916, it was decided to remodel the church.  It was turned half a turn, bricked and a basement put under it.  The stained glass windows were also added.  The remodeling cost between $8,000 and $12,000.  The dedication was on March 4, 1917. The Sunday School classes have been held at Amo United Methodist Church since 1893.

   The Ladies' Aid Society was organized on May 23, 1903.  There was also a Missionary Society.  The two were joined together in November 1940 to make the Women's Society of Christian Service.  The W.S.C.S. supported home and foreign missions by means of an annual pledge.
