Baritone Kyle Ferrill has performing experience in oratorio, recital, and operatic repertoire. Recent engagements include the Dawn Upshaw/Osvaldo Golijov Workshop at Carnegie Hall (including his Carnegie Hall recital debut), a performance with Jake Heggie and Ricky Ian Gordon, including Heggie's Here and Gone with the composer at UC Berkeley, the role of Tripaldi in Golijov's Ainadamar (Opera Boston, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestra of St. Luke's), and appearances as featured soloist with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops for Holiday Pops! in December 2007. An avid recitalist, Ferrill was a finalist in the art song category of the 2006 Liederkranz competition. Dr. Ferrill has coached with many vocal luminaries, including Phyllis Curtin, Martin Katz, William Sharp, Dawn Upshaw, and John Wustman. Ferrill's doctoral dissertation was a discussion and analysis of the career of William Parker and The AIDS Quilt Songbook. Festival studies include Tanglewood, Ravinia, and Songfest. An alumnus of Butler University (where he studied voice with Steven Stolen), Dr. Ferrill went on to receive his master's degree and doctorate in Vocal Performance from Florida State University. While at Florida State, Ferrill studied with Stanford Olsen and Timothy Hoekman.
Equally devoted to teaching, Dr. Ferrill taught at Mercer University and Boston University before joining the faculty of DePauw University. Based in his home town of Indianapolis, Dr. Ferrill and his wife Lexa are co‑founders of Full Circle Music, an organization which presents recitals all around the country.
