J. Nichols '89 Among 'Greatest Ocean Heroes of All Time'

Nichols, a 1989 graduate of DePauw University, is one of "19 of the Greatest Ocean Heroes of All Time," according to the Daily Green. It notes, "sea turtle researcher and conservationist Wallace J. Nichols Ph.D. started the Blue Marbles Project, a global initiative that asks participants to pass along a blue marble to someone they see expressing care for the oceans. So far 60,000 marbles have been shared, and the stories have been told via social media and other outlets."

Others cited include Ted Danson, Alexandra Paul, the Cousteau family and David Rockefeller Jr. One will receive a 2010 Heart of Green Award.

Dr. Nichols, a research associate with the California Academy of Sciences and founder of OceanRevolution.org., says, "We ocean lovers need to be the voice for the ocean."Heart of Green 2010.jpg

J. Nichols, who goes by his middle initial, will return to DePauw next month to deliver the primary address to the Class of 2010 at the University's 171st commencement.  The ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 23, at 1 p.m. (EDT) in Holton Memorial Quadrangle.  Learn more about the event and Dr. Nichols in this recent story.
