Author Series At The Putnam County Public Library |
Thursday, April 5
7pm
Library’s Kiwanis Room, 103 E. Poplar Street
A Conversation with Kay Ryan, poet
The Putnam County Public Library’s Author Series presents a conversation with poet Kay Ryan on Greencastle. Ryan has won such prestigious prizes as the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Ruth Lilly Prize. She teaches at the College of Marin in Kentfield, California.
The author of poetry collections Elephant Rocks and Say Uncle, Ryan is twice winner of the Pushcart Prize, and her formal verse is well known to readers of such magazines as The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, Poetry and Paris Review. Say Uncle, a collection of droll and pithy poems (following Elephant Rocks), Ryan once again pays homage to the craft of poetry.
Ryan’s most recent collection, The Niagara River: Poems, is intense and relaxed, buoyant and rueful. The singular music of Kay Ryan's poetry appeals to a wide audience. Her poems, products of an immaculately off-kilter mind, have appeared everywhere from the Sunday funnies to New York subways to the pages of The New Yorker to plaques at the zoo. This third collection for the Grove Press Poetry Series that began with the publication of Elephant Rocks, offers similar gems of hidden wonder.
A reception and book signing will follow Ryan’s reading. Books will be available to purchase on-site through Fine Print Book Store. The event is free and is also supported by DePauw’s James and Marilou Kelly Writers Series. For more information contact Margot R. Payne,
(765) 653-2755, x118 or e-mail, margot@putnam.lib.in.us. |
