DePauw Discourse

DePauw Discourse 2006: Issues for America is October 26 and 27. 

Students, faculty and staff are welcome and encouraged to attend all Discourse 2006 lectures and conversations, which are free and open to the public. 

DePauw Discourse 2006 will feature distinguished guests including U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and Iraq Study Group Co-Chair Lee Hamilton ’52. 

Students may also make reservations for an October 27 noon DePauw Discourse Roundtable Lunch at which they can engage event speakers in interactive discussion.  Limited space is available to students who make reservations by e-mailing Tammy Gaffney.

DePauw Discourse will close with a performance by the Capitol Steps on Friday, October 27 at 8pm.

October 23 - October 28 is Make a Difference Week and it will be in full swing on DePauw's campus and in the whole Greencastle community!

* These events are part of the Hartman House's Make A Difference Week.

The week will culminate on Saturday with a cooperative project between DePauw students and Greencastile community members. This year's project will be improving Jaycee Park!

So mark your calendars now and get ready to make a difference!

Off-Campus Study Photo Exhibit and Contest

Do you have photos from your experiences off-campus that you would like to share?

Submit up to 10 of your favorite photos for the Off-Campus Study Photo Exhibition. However, only one photo can be entered into the contest.

This exhibit will be on display at the HUB from 11am-2pm, November 13-17. There are prizes for the photos with the most votes. Photos are to be submitted in hard copy.

Wal-Mart Plaza Shopping Shuttle

Monday, October 30
4-6 pm

Drops off and pick up is in front of the Union Building, facing Locust Street. Look for the Safe Ride Van. The shuttle leaves the UB at 4pm, 4:30pm, and 5pm and returns from outside Wal-Mart near the Grocery entrance (near Subway) at 4:45pm, 5:15pm, and 5:45pm.

The shuttle is free!

Turtlepalooza

October 28
6:30 pm
Meharry Hall

Delta Zeta is hosting their first Turtlepalooza .

Turtlepalooza starts out as a talent contest between DePauw students and organizations where the winner is decided by audience votes made in change. The winner of the talent contest recieves 25 chances at $200 cash for Turtle Trek.

Immediately following the talent contest, Steve Hofstetter will take the stage. Described as a young Jerry Seinfeld by Jay Leno, Hofstetter raised over $25K for charity events last year. His comedy album “Cure for the Cable Guy” has reached number 20 on the charts and he tours all over the United States drawing large audiences with his wit and humor.

Turtle Trek will be on October 31 at 6:30pm in the Lilly pool. Rubber turtles will race across the pool with the first prize winner recieving $200 cash. Second prize is $100, third is $50, and the runner ups will recieve gift certificates donated by Greencastle buisnesses.

Turtlepalooza tickets are $5 each and turtle adoptions are $3 each or $2 with the purchase of a ticket.

Proceeds from both events benefit the Speech and Hearing Impaired. To adopt a turtle or purchase a ticket, stop by the HUB at lunch or contact semberg@depauw.edu.

Interested in working as a staff member in a department within Student Services, learning more about how things work at DePauw, working one-on-one with an administrator on a daily basis, and having the ability to impact campus issues as you further develop your leadership potential? Learn more about this opportunity to intern.

DePauw Professor and saxophonist Colin Renick lends his talents to the series with a performance that marks the start of DePauw's annual ArtsFest. A multi-instrumentalist that performs in a variety of styles, Renick's credits include appearances with David Sanchez, David Baker's Jazz Band, the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, the Evansville Philharmonic, Goza, the Mustard Cats Dixieland Jazz Band, and the Genkin Philharmonic. Like all series events, the performance runs from 9-11pm at the Walden Inn's Fluttering Duck and is free and open to the public.
