We are pleased to announce two Teach For America events at DePauw this week:
Thursday, September 21
Teach For America Information Meeting
7:30pm
Julian Auditorium (room 147)
Learn about the history of the program, experiences of Teach For America corps members, and details about the application process. Learn how you can make a significant impact in the lives of children growing up in low-income communities today and go on to be a leader in the movement to bring broader change. Refreshments will be served.
Sunday, September 24
"The Teach For America Experience: One Teacher's First Year in the NYC Classroom"
Lindsey Ciochina, DePauw class of 2005
2pm
301 Harrison Hall
Lindsey will talk about the ups and downs in her experience of teaching middle school students in New York City as a corps member of Teach For America. Refreshments will be served.
Teach For America calls upon recent college graduates of all backgrounds and academic majors to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools and to become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand opportunity for children.
You are cordially invited to attend these sessions to find out more about this nationally recognized program. Many DePauw students have been accepted to Teach for America in recent years, and they have been assigned to schools in San Francisco, New Orleans, and New York City, among many other places. After their teaching commitment, corps members are driven by their experience to stay in the classroom or go on to become leaders in other sectors. Many DePauw corps members have gone on to study law or medicine, continued with graduate studies in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, or begun working in the private sector to advocate for change.
For more information on Teach For America, check out www.teachforamerica.org. The first application deadline is September 30, and the application is available online. If you have questions, please contact Stacey Johnson or Isabel Campos, DePauw's Teach For America campus campaign managers, or Jack Carey, Teach For America’s central recruitment director.
