Expectations

In order to participate in the Winter Term in Service (WTIS) program you must satisfactorily complete the program requirements listed below. These activities focus on group dynamics, culture, and personal development. The requirements are:

  • To participate in ALL of the fall components of the program including: all team seminars, team retreat, and program specific events (e.g. medical clinic for teams with medical component).
  • To participate in the on-campus orientation in January. Orientation will take place in early January before departure.  Students must be on campus one day before departure for weigh-in and the Commissioning Ceremony.  All students must travel with their team upon departure from campus and for arrival to campus at the end of each trip unless approved prior to departure by the WTIS staff. --NO EXCEPTIONS—PLEASE TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN MAKING FLIGHT ARRANGEMENTS TO/FROM CAMPUS.  (If you believe your situation deserves special consideration, please contact the WTIS Office.)
  • To receive all vaccinations required by the WTIS program in a timely manner prior to departure.
  • To assist team officers in preparing and packing all needed team supplies, including the construction tools and medical supplies.

In order to receive Winter Term credit for the program, students must also complete the following requirements:

  • Keep a journal to be reviewed by the faculty/staff leader at the conclusion of the winter term.
  • Write a brief academic paper upon return (at the faculty/staff leader’s discretion).
  • Participate in the re-entry event and other requirements during spring semester.
  • Complete all requirements as stated in the Learning Agreement.

If students do not complete all of these requirements to the satisfaction of the faculty/staff leaders and the WTIS office they may not receive WT credit.
