Refund Policy

Students will be given until September 30, 2008, after scholarships are announced, to drop from a team without additional penalty beyond forfeiting the initial deposit.  At any time, if a student chooses to drop from a team, the Winter Term in Service (WTIS) office must receive written notification of that decision.

The first deposit is not refundable at any time after it is charged to the students in July, 2008, prior to the trip, regardless of the reason for dropping from a trip.

  • July 1, 2008, the first deposit of $100.00 will be charged to students who have submitted their Intent to Participate/Spring Deposit form.  July 31, 2008, is the last day to withdraw from a trip without the loss of the first deposit.
  • August 1, 2008, the second deposit of $150.00 will be charged to students who have submitted an Intent to Participate/Spring Deposit form.  August 29, 2008, is the last day to withdraw from a trip without the loss of the second deposit.
  • In September 1, 2008, the third and final deposit will be charged to students who have submitted a Payment Agreement Form.
  • After October 1, 2008, if a student withdraws from a trip, the student will be responsible to pay any unrecoverable fees that have already been committed, which will include at least the cost of the plane ticket, if not additional charges.

This policy is in effect whether a student drops from a team voluntarily, is unable to participate at the last minute (for any reason including emergencies, medical etc…) is removed for disciplinary reasons, or is not fulfilling the requirements set forth by the WTIS program due to the fact that we are not only bound to non-refundable plane tickets, but we also are contractually obligated to pay our host organizations the promised amounts.  If a student is sent home early for any reason (medical, behavioral, etc.), there will be no refund of the trip cost, and the student will be responsible for the costs incurred in the return flight arrangements.

Upon completion of the trip, refunds are no longer available.
