Pre-departure - Course Credit

As stated in the Off-campus Study Handbook, students can receive credit for their major, minor, and group requirements while off campus. Many off-campus study programs have courses based on a credit hour (semester hour) system.  For example, one course is worth 4 credit hours (semester hours).  For these programs, every 4 credit hours (semester hours) is worth 1 DePauw credit.
e.g.,      program class is 4 credit hours = 1 DePauw credit
program class is 3 credit hours = .75 DePauw credit
program class is 2 credit hours = .5 DePauw credit

Other programs have different credit amounts, many of which have no obvious mathematical formula. All approved off-campus study students must complete the Course Credit Form which is used to document proposed off-campus study courses and each courses equivalent DePauw credit. Students must recieve the approval of their academic advisor(s) as well as the department chair to recieve credit for courses to count towards major(s) and minor(s). The Office of the Registrar approves courses for elective and group credit. If you have questions about how much credit you will earn, please email us at ocs@depauw.edu.
