Sugar Maple and Black Maple

Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) and Black Maple (A. nigrum) were indistinguishable during our winter surveys. Therefore, this map represents the combined importance of these two species. They are very closely related species and in some cases they hybridize, making identification difficult at any time of year.
