Spicebush

Spicy-scented shrub. Occurs in understory of older forests at the Nature Park

Leaves:
Leaves are oval, widest beyond the middle of the leaf.
Leaves are very aromatic when crushed, hence the name benzoin.

Fruit:
Fruit is red berry, about 1 cm long.

Uses:
Strongly aromatic twigs and leaves have been used for tea.
