Leaves:
Leaves are palmately veined with five deep lobes. Lobes have large teeth. Top side of leaf is green, bottom of leaf is silvery-white.
Bark:
Bark is gray, shaggy.
Flowers:
Flowers are produced in dense clusters before leaves in early spring. Flowers start as reddish buds, turn yellowish-green.
Fruit:
Fruit are samaras with wings.
More Information:
The genus name Acer is from the Latin for "sharp," referring to the sharply pointed lobes on the leaves. The species name saccharinum means “sugary.”
