White Oak
Family: Fagaceae, beech family
Genus, species: Quercus alba
Leaves:
Edges of leaves have rounded lobes. Lobes may be shallow or deep depending on whether the leaves are in the sun or shade.
Bark:
Bark is light gray with shallow fissures.
Fruit:
Acorns are long and thin, enclosed by a shallow cup. Acorns germinate shortly after falling from tree.
More Information:
The genus name Quercus is from the Latin for "oak" and the species name alba is from the Latin for "white."
