Flowers:
Dense clusters of flowers are produced at ends of stems. Ray flowers and disk flowers are yellow.

The genus name Solidago is from the Latin for "united" or "solid," referring to use of the plant as a healing medicine. The species name rigida is from the Latin for "stiff" or "rigid."
