Leaves:
Leaves are compound. Leaflets are widely rounded and lobed.
Flowers:
Flowers are showy. Each flower has five to ten white sepals that look like petals. There are no true petals. Stamens are conspicuous with yellow anthers. Produces flowers in mid-spring, April and May.

The genus name Thalictrum was used by Dioscorides, an ancient Greek botanist, for another plant. The species name thalictroides means "resembling Thalictrum." The family name Ranunculaceae is from the Latin for "little frog," a diminutive of the frog genus name Rana, referring to the amphibious habit of many plants in this family.
