Leaves:
Leaves are up to 1 foot long, 1 inch wide, folded lengthwise, forming a groove. Leaves are lance-shaped with parallel veins.
Flowers:
Flowers are violet-blue or purple, three petals, with yellow stamens. Flowers are clustered at end of stems. Flower is about 1 inch in diameter. Produces flowers in summer, July and August.

Tradescantia is named for John Tracescant (1567-1638) and his son John Tradescant (1608-1662), English plant collectors.
