Toad Trillium

Leaves:
Three leaves, usually mottled with light and dark green.

Flowers:
Flower is produced in the middle of the three leaves. Petals are dark red. Flower is sessile or stalkless. Produces flowers in mid-spring, in April and May.

More Information:

The genus name Trillium is from the Greek for "triple-lily," referring to the fact that the plant has parts in multiples of three, like a lily.  The species name sessile is from the Latin for "sessile" or "sitting," referring to the stalkless flowers.
