Leaves are palmately compound with three leaflets. Each leaflet is up to 4 inches long, 2 inches wide. Leaves are bright green.

Fruit is bladder-like, inflated, shaped like a teardrop, 1 inch in diameter, contains several large black seeds.
More Information:
Common name, "hop tree," refers to past use of fruit as a substitute for hops in brewing beer.
