Global Impact
Professor Sharon Crary has studied the devastating effects of the Ebola virus for 15 years. Since the 2015 Africa outbreak, there is greater international awareness, but doctors still do not have an easy way to treat infected people. Sharon and her students tackle the issue in the lab at DePauw, researching ways to stop replication of the virus.
DePauw is 100% focused on the student experience - not only in teaching but also in global research initiatives. In Sharon’s department, students learn reasoning skills as well as scientific confidence. They address critical issues, like the Ebola virus, study relevant techniques and learn to critique their own experiments – and develop new ones.
“My students will go on to make a difference in the world - whether through research or graduate school, or by having better critical reasoning skills in any other field." DePauw’s liberal arts mission instills multi-dimensional skills for responding to global problems, which allows students to put their passions to good use.
