Japanese design pervades contemporary visual and material culture around the world. From anime-inspired character mascots to minimalist bowls, Japanese design is a part of everyday life in all corners of the globe. This class will introduce Japanese design through a study of its aesthetic principles and history. Students will also practice Japanese-inspired design with a series of assignments culminating in the creation of a Japanese design corner in the Peeler Art Center.
