Transportation
Because Greencastle is located in a rural area, public transportation or rideshare services are less frequent. Although the campus and the city are walkable, several transportation options also exist.
Traveling from the airport
International Student Affairs provides shuttles from the Indianapolis airport (IND) for first-year students, if they arrive on the recommended day (Tuesday, August 13th for the class of 2024). If a student arrives on a different day, in order to get from the Indianapolis airport (IND) to Greencastle, Indiana, a student may use uber app, lyft app, or this is a list of local drivers that students have relied on in the past to schedule with a local driver. The trip can cost between $40 - $60.
Airport shuttles are usually provided by Campus Activities before and after breaks, such as Summer break, Fall break, thanksgiving, and Spring break.
Traveling Around Campus and Greencastle
DePauw is a walkable campus, and the Greencastle square, with restaurants, coffee shops, and community spaces, is a short 5-minute walk from campus. See the food page to see the nearest grocery stores. Rural Transit, a Greencastle mini-bus, makes stops at DePauw, the Greencastle library, Kroger, CVS, and Walmart and costs $1 each way.
International Student Affairs also sponsors a first-come, first-serve bike rental program for students. The sign-up sheet for this will be shared with students at the beginning of every semester.
Traveling to Indianapolis and Chicago
Certain DePauw organizations offer shuttles. DISA (DePauw International Student Association) offers shuttles to Chicago in the fall; the Arts DePartment also offers shuttles to The Art Institute of Chicago at the end of the spring.
Location
Note: Some international students will get their license and purchase a car during their time at DePauw. This is not necessary, but see Driving in the US for more information.
