“Yōkai: Supernatural Creatures of Japanese Culture”

Dr. Foster received his Ph.D. from Stanford in 2003. The US expert on yōkai or Japanese monsters, he has published the monograph Pandemonium and Parade: Japanese Monsters and the Culture of Yōkai and articles on both traditional yōkai (including tanuki and kappa) and yōkai deriving from contemporary urban legends, such as the Slit-Mouthed Woman.
