Professor of Classical Studies and Chair of the Faculty
David Guinee is a Professor of Classical Studes and the Faculty Development Coordinator at DePauw University. He received his B.A. in Classical Languages from Carleton College and his PhD in Classical Philology from the University of Michigan. Research interests include Latin epic (particularly Flavian epic), language pedagogy, and early Christian literature. Professor Guinee teaches Greek and Latin classes at all levels and a variety of courses in translation, including Greek and Roman Mythology, Greek and Roman Law, and seminars on Homer and the Trojan War, the Age of Augustus, and the Age of Nero. He has been an active participant in Sunoikisis, designing and teaching collaborative Latin courses that connect students and faculty across multiple campuses. He also regularly teaches off-campus Winter Term courses in Italy, taking students to Rome, Florence, Venice, Pompeii, and other sites.
Professor Guinee is a father of three and the husband of an accomplished knitwear designer. He spends free time running, fly fishing, and playing music on the guitar and five-string banjo.
