An ancient Chinese Board Game Go

Shawn Obanion

This project consists of the development of a computer software version of the game referred to as "Go". The program will utilize the power of artificial intelligence to create a competitive computer opponent for a human player. The game Go is an ancient Chinese board game which involves two players who alternate placing white and black stones on the intersections of a 19 x 19 grid. The ultimate objective of each player is to control the larger portion of the board. This is achieved by surrounding your opponent's stones with your own which results in their stones being removed from the board. The game ends when both players pass on a turn (indicating that they can no longer gain any territory) or when one player gives up.
