Computer Science Department
Computing offers great opportunities for true creativity and innovativeness.
According to the Association of Computing Machinery:
"Creating high-quality computing solutions is a highly creative activity, and computing supports creative work in many other fields. The best solutions in computing exhibit high levels of elegance and beauty."
At DePauw:
DePauw students have consistently demonstrated their ability to think outside of the box -- and our curriculum gives students plenty of opportunities for student-driven creative work. Whether pursuing an independently designed Winter Term project, competing in the annual Microsoft Imagine Cup competition, working on a project for one of our student computing clubs (ACM , ACM-W, or programming team), or exploring a research project during the summer, students are regularly asked to develop creative solutions to open-ended problems. In fact, each student culminates the major by designing, implementing, testing and documenting a significant software system. While a faculty member serves as a guide and mentor, the student drives most of the creative process based on his or her own interests. This is fantastic preparation for life after DePauw!
