Francesca Seaman
Associate Professor of Modern Languages
A native Italian and the first woman in her family to earn a college degree, Seaman graduated with Honors in the Humanities from Stanford University. After a year at the Ecole Normale in Paris, she pursued her master's degree and Ph.D. in Italian Literature, with a concentration in French and Literary Theory, at Yale University.
Today Professor Seaman directs the Italian Program at DePauw. She participates in both national and international conferences, and has published articles on Italian contemporary poets, such as Luciano Cecchinel, Andrea Zanzotto, and Dino Campana. Seaman belongs to the editorial board of the Italian journals Symbolon and Studi mariniani. She also belongs to the editorial board of a series in literary criticism and theory titled “La scrittura possibile.” In 1991 she founded the immersion Italian language school Scuola Insieme, and in recent years she has been invited as a visiting professor at the Yale Summer School.
