Frauenliteratur des 20. Jahrhunderts. (20th Century German Women Writers--taught in German). Inge Aures.
We will be reading and analyzing short novels and short stories that are representative works by German women writers of the 20th Century. We will be critically examine a variety of literary texts with the following questions in mind: Is there a specific literary genre that women writers prefer? Are there specific characteristics of women’s writing? Is there a particular female way of writing? How are women’s lives depicted in theses stories? What kind of relationships are explored in these works and what role do those relationships play in the life of the protagonist? How are specific gender roles characterized in these works (within society, within a family, among friends)? What power structures are revealed in these works? What conclusion can we draw from those literary works to life in (today’s) Germany?
