The ability to tell a story is at the center of any writer’s success, and boldness, innovation and dedication are essential to telling it well. Whether you intend to tell that story as a novelist, screenwriter, poet, journalist, editor, activist, lawyer, marketing specialist, educator or any number of other diverse professional roles, a foundation in writing will equip you with a set of highly adaptable skills that nearly all employers and collaborators are looking for. The writing program at DePauw nurtures within its students a voice and vocabulary with which to fluently converse with the world.
Our professors are highly respected, published writers, who are active in their careers and offer intensive instruction in poetry, fiction, playwriting, creative nonfiction, screenwriting and journalistic writing. Under their guidance, you will be able to carve out your own path chosen from an array of courses and writing workshops. Along the way, you can learn from contemporary artists in the Kelly Writers Series, edit or publish your work in DePauw’s own literary journal, contribute to the award-winning student newspaper or collaborate with other creative students on a film project, theatrical production or recording project.
