Given the globally extensive presence of Spanish and its many diverse speaking communities, the knowledge of Hispanic language and cultures is a mandate for twenty-first century flourishing. Whether you pair it with a secondary academic focus in a field such as sociology, economics, global health or education, a degree in Hispanic studies will help you find your place within our shared multilingual and multicultural future.
In our courses, we seek to create spaces of solidarity with Hispanic communities while also advancing individual proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, listening and intercultural competence. In your studies, you will directly engage critical topics such as migration, gender, politics, oppression and resistance and popular culture. You will also acquire a host of skills that are immensely valuable in today’s globalized society. Not only will this give you the tools to succeed in a variety of careers, but it will also develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse experiences that shape our interconnected world.
