Leadership Requirements

The academic requirements for leadership represent a specialized course of study within the larger context of a diverse liberal arts education. Not only are these requirements designed to provide a focused and rigorous approach to the core concepts of the discipline, but they also allow ample opportunities for exploration in other subjects and departments throughout the university. By studying leadership at DePauw, you will develop comprehensive expertise in your field while enjoying the benefits of a well-rounded education.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion--Complete one course with PPD designation in addition to the PPD course taken as a graduation requirement (may not overlap with other courses taken for the minor).

At least one-half credit of practicum chosen from extended studies courses, or internships, or independent study, or field experience done as part of another course (COMM 299, GLH 301, HONR 221, HONR 222, HONR 320, UNIV 300, UNIV 301, UNIV 310, UNIV 315; options requiring approval: UNIV OCS-with credit, UNIV 299).

For any of the four areas above, other course options may be approved in consultation with the minor advisor.

Senior Requirement--Successful completion of an 1800 to 2400 word integrative reflection essay that highlights the unique contribution of each of the above courses to the students' conceptualization of leadership studies (C or higher). This essay will be completed as a component of LEAD 333 when appropriate, or in consultation with the minor advisor if necessitated by the schedule for completion of courses.

Leveraging the resources of the School of Business and Leadership, the leadership minor at DePauw is an interdisciplinary program that integrates the expertise of multiple departments to develop the knowledge and skills needed to excel in a rapidly changing world.
