Into the Woods

As the result of a curse by a once-beautiful witch, a baker and his wife are left childless. Three days before the rise of a blue moon, they venture into an enchanted forest to find the ingredients needed to reverse the spell and restore the witch’s beauty: a milk-white cow, hair as yellow as corn, a blood-red cape, and a slipper of gold. During their journey, they encounter a trove of storybook characters—Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Jack—each one on a quest to fulfill a wish, as they chase their deepest desires into the woods.

The Little Prince

Based on the beloved book by French author Antoine de Saint-Expuréy, British composer Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince imagines a child prince who has fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid! Upon meeting a stranded airplane pilot, they explore Earth together, witnessing many unusual characters and animals along the way and, eventually, learning many lessons about honesty and empathy from their experiences — a gentle reminder that “one sees clearly only with the heart.” For this fully staged production with orchestra, all performances will be sung in English and include supertitles.

DePauw Opera

DePauw Opera sustains a long history of preparing large works performed by a cast of all-undergraduate singers. With coaching by staff accompanists and stage direction by not only in-house faculty but professional guest directors, the standard for DePauw Opera can be shown through fully staged and costumed productions like Cendrillon (Massenet), Street Scene (Kurt Weill), Little Women (Mark Adamo), Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) and dozens more full productions both in English and in the work's original language with supertitles. DePauw Opera focuses on providing opportunities for as many students as possible as each opera is most often produced with double casting and full orchestra in the Green Center’s Moore Theatre.
