A violinist and violist, originally from northern Virginia, Kathleen Swayze earned music education degrees from Indiana University and Butler University. She taught middle school orchestra for 23 years, the last 15 of which were at Zionsville Middle School.
Kathleen is a published composer of string orchestra music for young people and is sought-after in the state as a composer and arranger, as well as a guest clinician and speaker. She was awarded Outstanding Middle School Music Educator in Indiana by the Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA) in 2012 and served as Tri-M Music Honor Society State Chairperson for IMEA for several years. She currently is engaged as a private string instructor with the Brownsburg Schools.
When she is not busy musically, she plays soccer goalie in amateur tournaments all over the country and writes YA novels about string players. Kathleen and her husband, Mark, live in Zionsville, Indiana; their son Parker and his wife Becky live nearby.
