Flute

Tierney McClure is a freelance flutist and educator currently based in Bloomington, Indiana. She received her B.M. in Flute Performance from Bowling Green State University and her M.M. in Flute Performance from Indiana University, where she studied with professors Thomas Robertello, Conor Nelson and Joel Tse.

As a dedicated educator, Tierney currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Flute at DePauw University. During her time at IU, she was Associate Instructor of the flute studio for three years and taught for the Jacobs Flute Academy for one summer.

As a performer, Tierney has subbed with various ensembles, including the Toledo Symphony, Terre Haute Symphony, Columbus Philharmonic, Perrysburg Symphony, Ballet Indiana and Butler University’s Ballet program. As a proponent of new music, Tierney performed with IU’s New Music Ensemble for three years and has performed solos in festivals such as Electronic Music Midwest and the Midwest Composers’ Symposium, as well as premiering countless new solo and chamber works during her time at IU. She is a member of the newly formed woodwind quintet, Prism Winds, whose goal is to promote and play new music by underrepresented composers, as well as the Ivory Winds, a woodwind and piano ensemble promoting lost and forgotten pieces for uncommon instrumentations.

While at Bowling Green, Tierney was the recipient of multiple grants, including the ProMusica grant and Dorothy Mackenzie Price International study scholarship. She has participated in various festivals including the Brevard Music Center and Music Academy International in Trentino, Italy , and has participated in various masterclasses, including the William Bennett International Flute Summer School, The Consummate Flutist and the Pender Island Flute Retreat. In 2021, she won 3rd prize for the Puerto Rico Flute Symposium’s Young Artist Competition, and in 2023 was a finalist in IU’s Woodwind Concerto Competition.
