Proof Of English Proficiency & Official Test Scores

*DePauw is a test-optional university. For more information regarding requirements, see the Test-Optional FAQs page.

Additionally, an official* score report from TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or Duolingo is required if English is not your first language.

The following nationalities will receive automatic English proficiency waivers:

Anguilla, Antigua, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Barbuda, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Quebec), Dominica, Grand Cayman Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Irish Republic, Jamaica, Montserrat, New Zealand, Saint Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Tobago, Trinidad, Turks & Caicos Islands, United Kingdom: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales

Proof of English proficiency can be waived on a case-by-case basis for those students who have spent their entire secondary school education at an English-medium school (where English is the primary language of instruction) – please send an e-mail to intladmission@depauw.edu to request consideration for a waiver.

Official Secondary/High School Academic Records

These must come to DePauw directly from your current or most recently attended secondary/ high school, and should contain your grades or marks from the last four years of secondary school (the four years includes the year in progress if you are still in school, so three years of records are acceptable at the time of application).

We require that the documents are sent to us in both the original language of issuance (if it is a language other than English) AND translated into English. Translations should be verified by either your school(s), or a local EducationUSA office.

If you come from a country where you have taken national, regional, or state board examinations (such as the Indian CBSE/ISC/State Board, the African WAEC, the Cambridge IGCSE, GCSE, etc.), we require that your counselor submit your exam results along with your high school records.

Please note that we will not accept documents that are sent by the applicant with their supplemental application materials, even if the envelope is sealed and stamped. They must be sent to us directly from your school’s counseling or administration office, either through the Common Application, or through mail!! We will NOT accept these documents via e-mail.

If you are attending an international school that has an American (AP), Cambridge, or International Baccalaureate curriculum, you can read about our advanced credit policy.

If you are admitted and decide to enroll at DePauw, we will also require that you submit proof of graduation in addition to a final, official transcript.

A Sample Of Your Writing

Please write an essay of 650 words on a topic of your choice. This personal essay helps us become acquainted with you as a person and student, apart from courses, grades, test scores, and other objective data. It will also demonstrate your ability to organize your thoughts and express yourself in English.

This requirement is fulfilled through the Common Application website.

Financial Supporting documents

All international students must submit proof of financial support in order to complete their application and be considered for admission to DePauw.

The total estimated amount that must be shown in order to qualify for an I-20 form from DePauw for the 2024 – 25 academic year is $74,400 (less any financial awards for which you may qualify). Please note that this estimated number is subject to change once tuition has been officially set by the university later this year.

The breakdown of this estimate for the 2024 – 25 academic year is as follows:

Tuition and fees - $57,990
Room and Board - $15,330
Mandatory Fees - $1,080

TOTAL - $74,400

Depauw university certification of finances (required)

DePauw University offers similar level of financial aid assistance to international students and U.S. citizens and permanent residents. All international applicants are required to submit the DePauw University Student Certification of Finances, regardless of whether or not they want to be considered for need-based financial aid.

Once you submit your application, our Certification of Finances document will become available via your online portal. No other forms (i.e. International Student Financial Aid Application or CSS Profile, etc.) will be accepted in it's place.

Supporting Financial documentation is required as part of the financial aid review process. Examples of acceptable financial documents include:

Recent Official bank statement (less than 6 months old)
Employment letters verifying parent income
Letter of financial support from private sponsor

Optional Interview

Though an interview is not compulsory for a DePauw applicant, it can help strengthen your application for admission.

DePauw accepts Vericant and InitialView interviews as an optional supplement to your application.

Optional Institute of Music Audition

If applying to the Institute of Music, you will need to complete the audition process.

ENROLLMENT DEPOSIT

A $400 non refundable enrollment deposit is due by May 1, 2025 to secure a spot in our Class of 2029*

To check the status of your application or pay your acceptance deposit, please log in to your application portal. If you have questions regarding your application portal or trouble logging in, please contact the Office of Admission at 765.658.4006.

Admitted Students: here are detailed instructions about the enrollment process.

DEFERRAL REQUEST

Admitted students who have already submitted their enrollment deposit ($400) can request to defer for up to one year. If you choose to defer an additional $1,100.00 advance tuition deposit is required to secure your seat in the following semester or academic year and this deposit will be credited to your first semester charges. Please note that the advance tuition payment is non-refundable but is also applied toward tuition when you enroll at DePauw University.

Any student who is deferring must submit their formal request in writing which should include the student's reasoning for deferring to loutfijirari@depauw.edu. If the deferral request is approved, the advance tuition payment must be submitted by June 1st, 2025.
