FAFSA verification is a process required by the U.S. Department of Education to confirm the accuracy of information provided on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Through this review process, DePauw's Financial Aid Office may request additional documentation to verify the information you reported on your FAFSA. This process helps ensure the accuracy of your financial aid package.
Approximately 20% of FAFSAs filed each year are selected for federal verification. If selected for verification, this process must be completed before your aid can be finalized.
If you're selected for verification, here's what to expect:
Notification: You'll receive an email from the Financial Aid Office requesting additional documents.
Document Submission: You'll need to submit the requested documents, which may include:
Signed copies of federal tax returns (student and parent)
W-2 forms (student and parent)
IRS tax transcript (student and parent)
Other relevant financial documents
Review: Your submitted documents will be reviewed and compared to your FAFSA information.
Corrections: If discrepancies are found, corrections may be made to your FAFSA.
Aid Adjustment: Your financial aid package may be adjusted based on the verified information.
