Fenlon and Huffman Funds

The William J. Fenlon Endowed Fund for Men’s Basketball Travel and the Kristin R. Huffman Endowed Fund for Women’s Basketball Travel provide support for the DePauw men’s and women’s basketball programs travel, which adds value to the student-athletes’ cultural and experiential learning. The funds were established by alumni and friends in honor of Bill Fenlon’s and Kris Huffman’s 25th seasons coaching basketball at DePauw. Bill Fenlon served as the head men's basketball coach at DePauw from 1992 to 2022. Kris Huffman has served as the head women's basketball coach at DePauw since June of 1993.

These funds -- created through the collective giving of so many alumni, students, families and friends -- demonstrate the power of philanthropy when supporters put their hearts, minds and donations toward an important cause. 

During Spring Break in 2024, the men's basketball team, along with Coach Bill and Gigi Fenlon, traveled to Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, where they took in may historical sites and culutral experiences and also played against Spanish basketball teams.

“Basketball is a college sport that is not conducive to taking study abroad trips in college, because we span over two semesters. The Fenlon Fund is providing an amazing international experience for our players to be able to learn about different cultures and expand upon the amazing liberal arts and sciences education that DePauw provides without having to sacrifice their athletic experience. Without the generosity of all friends, family and alumni who donated to the Fenlon Fund, this experience -- and future international trips for the team -- would not be possible. It is an amazing opportunity to provide our players, an incredible recruiting tool with prospective student-athletes and, most importantly, highlights the career of one of the all-time great coaches in Tiger history, Bill Fenlon. His name would always be in the record books, but now all future Tigers will talk about Coach Fenlon and his legacy,” says DePauw Head Men’s Basketball Coach Rusty Loyd.  

"The Huffman Fund allowed the women’s basketball team travel to Italy in August 2024. They experienced a lot of Italy during the 10 days, including Rome (the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, Sistine Chapel, Trevi Fountain, Coliseum and Roman Forums), a chance to explore the five villages of Cinque Terre, a gondola ride in Venice, a private boat tour of Lake Como and shopping in Milan. The team competed in three games against Italian teams. I want to express a genuine thank you to the many alums, families and friends that made this trip a reality through the Huffman Fund. Thank you!" said Head Women's Basketball Coach Kris Huffman.
