Actors From The London Stage to perform Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night Wednesday

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, the DePauw Creative School will present the acclaimed Actors From The London Stage (AFTLS) in a production of “Twelfth Night” by William Shakespeare.
The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Green Center for the Performing Arts Moore Theatre on the DePauw University campus.
The five-member troupe of British actors will perform a stripped-down, text-centered version of one of Shakespeare’s most well-known romantic comedies, featuring the central character of Viola, who must disguise herself as a young man to court the finicky Olivia on behalf of the melancholy Duke Orsino, whom Viola secretly admires.
Complicating matters is the issue of Viola’s twin brother Sebastian, who is thought to have drowned at sea but miraculously survives to appear late in the play and help resolve the complicated but comical story.
The AFTLS company traditionally has performed a Shakespearean play at DePauw every other year for more than two decades and last performed “Twelfth Night” in Greencastle in 2019. This Creative School event is co-sponsored by the Department of Communication and Theatre and the English Department.
Doors will open to the public at 7 p.m. for the performance, which is a part of a week-long residency by the AFTLS at DePauw.
During their guest residency, the five actors will visit as many as a dozen DePauw classes and will conduct a free workshop on acting Shakespeare for Putnam County middle school and high school students on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Green Center, Room 1201 (600 S. Locust Street).
The workshop is open to all Greencastle and Putnam County middle and high school students. Registration for the Thursday workshop for teens is encouraged but not required.

Thanks in part to support from the Gilbert S. Lance Fund, admission to the AFTLS performance of “Twelfth Night” on Wednesday is also free. Seating is not ticketed and is open to all audience members on a first-come, first-admitted basis.
