Prof. Erik Melchiorre is 'Future Leader' Award Winner

January 25, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - Erik B. Melchiorre, assistant professor of geology and geography at DePauw University, has been selected by the Society of Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) as the 2001 "Future Leader" award winner for academics. The SME honors one winner in academics and another from industry.

The award recognizes outstanding young professionals who represent the future of mining and geology exploration. Melchiorre was selected based upon the merits of his work in mine hydrogeology and environmental geology for projects at the Morenci Mine in Arizona. He will accept the award at the SME's annual meeting in Denver, Colorado, in late February.
