DePauw Presented with Two National Awards for Outstanding Service

March 29, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. -- A group of three staff members and nine Civic Interns from DePauw University has returned from the nation's largest gathering of college students and administrators involved in community service programs with two of the six national awards presented at the conference. DePauw's team from the Hartman Center for Civic Education and Leadership participated in COOL's (Campus Outreach Opportunity League) Annual Conference on Student Community Service and Action hosted by Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
DePauw's Winter Term in Service Program received the Teaming Up Award, given to a program that demonstrates exceptional leadership in building strong collaborative relations among students, administrators, faculty and the community.
Winter Term in Service Civic Intern Darius Uible received the Seeds of Service Award for his individual efforts in rebuilding the Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Chapter at DePauw.
Seminar participants from DePauw included staff members Steve Janowiak, director of the Leadership Academy; Jean Everage, assistant director of the Hartman Center and coordinator of the Bonner Scholar Program; and Karine Huys, program coordinator of Winter Term in Service. The Civic Interns were Stacy Argoe, Bethany Bailey, Theresa Daily, Nathan Hand, Marc Jansen, Elizabeth Morgan, Stephanie Sogge, Katie Tapke and Jessica Thompson. The DePauw group presented three different workshops at the conference, discussing the Hartman Center's Leadership Academy, the Winter Term in Service program and Civic Intern programs.
