Fred Lamar Carries On DePauw Tradition of Service
August 16, 2001
August 16, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - Even in retirement, W. Fred Lamar is giving his time, talents and energies in service of others. The retired DePauw University Chaplain established the Winter Term in Mission program (now known as Winter Term in Service), which sends DePauw students to both domestic and foreign sites to help impoverished people. Lamar accompanied students on those goodwill missions for more than two decades. An article in the August 11 edition of the Tampa Tribune shows that Dr. Lamar's legacy of goodwill is continuing.
The 67-year-old Lamar, who is now a member of the Eckerd College Academy of Senior Professionals, is prominently mentioned in an article on a Bosnian woman who served as a translator forLamar when he volunteered in children's camps in that country. The woman, Dunja Busic, has been selected to receive an Eckerd College scholarship.
The article mentions Dr. Lamar's DePauw connection, and how he hopes to bring hope, healing and opportunities to help others to Busic, whose father was shot twice in the war zone in which they lived.
