Hartman Center, Medical Directors Among 4 DePauw Hires

October 1, 2001, Greencastle, Ind. - Cathy H. Hamilton, adjunct lecturer at the School of Human Resource Education and Workforce Development at Louisiana State University with a lengthy record of service to others, is the new director of the Hartman Center for Civic Education and Leadership, effective January 3, 2002. The appointment was announced today by vice president for president for student services James L. Lincoln.
Hamilton, who received a B.A. with honors from the University of Texas, a masters degree from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in vocational education from Louisiana State, has previously served as a director of educational ministries, an associate editor, an instructor of Spanish and a mission co-worker for the Presbterian Church in Chile.
Belinda Leigh Miller, M.D., becomes the new medical director at DePauw, effective today, October 1, 2001. Dr. Miller was a staff physician at the Indiana University Health Center in Bloomington; was team physician for IU's women's soccer program; and did clinical work at Southern Indiana Pediatrics, L.L.C. and Promptcare Immediate Care Clinics, both in Bloomington. Miller did her undergraduate work at the College of St. Benedict, received her M.D. from The University of Iowa College of Medicine, spent her residency in pediatrics at Michigan State University's Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies, where she also did a fellowship in sports medicine.
Laura Luce, youth services coordinator for the American Red Cross in Washington, DC, became coordinator of leadership and director of the Hartman Center's Leadership Academy, effective September 24, 2001. A graduate of Warren Wilson College, Luce is completing a masters degree in international and intercultural management from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont. Prior to joining the Red Cross, she worked with youths in a sex offender program in North Carolina and was an environmental educator and teacher trainer for the United States Peace Corps in Jamaica and Guatemala.
DePauw also announces that T. Janine Ekulona joined the academic support services staff as a student services specialist, September 26, 2001. Ekulona is a 1993 graduate of DePauw, and received her M.A. in theoretical linguistics from UCLA. Her wide range of experiences include serving as a socio-political consultant for the National Garifuna Orthographic Association in Nicaragua to doing international research in Dangriga, Belize.
