Saturday's 'Cool Site of the Day'? You're There!!!
February 20, 2002
February 20, 2002, Greencastle, Ind. - The New York Times calls it the "arbiter of taste on the Internet." This Saturday, February 23, the featured "Cool Site of the Day" on coolsiteoftheday.com will be DePauw.edu. DePauw Web Director Dan Pfeifer has received notitication from CSOTD's Greg Smith, who writes that the designation "is likely to increase traffic to DePauw.edu significantly." This site now receives approximately 7 million hits a month.
Visitors to DePauw.edu on Saturday will have an opportunity to "rate" what they see on a one to ten scale. Smith writes, "The higher your site is ranked, the better your chances of getting nominated for 'Cool Site of the Year.'" For example, the FBI's web site was the "cool site of the day" Tuesday and netted a score of 9.307. The day before, Razzies.com received a chillier (as opposed to cooler) tally of 4.223.
"This is terrific recognition for our web site, and should draw a lot of new, first-time visitors to check us out," says Pfeifer. "As regular users of DePauw.edu know, there's a lot to look at, from news stories that are posted and updated several times each day, to audio and video clips of campus highlights, information on academic programs and athletic teams, live webcams that allow you to take peeks around campus and virtual tours of DePauw's buildings and landmarks. It's safe to say a lot of people around the globe will get their first taste of life at DePauw Saturday because of the 'Cool Site of the Day' designation," Pfeifer said.
According to Yahoo! Internet Life, "The original and still the best, Cool Site of the Day is more than a mere list of links. It is required daily reading for anyone interested in keeping up with what's happening on the Web. Even if you don't agree with the picks, it is worth knowing what these arbiters of online coolness think."
